What to do in the Luberon?
Visit the village of Roussillon
Located less than a ten-minute drive from our cottage, the village of Roussillon is listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Its ochre-colored facades are what make it so unique and famous.
The village overlooks the cliffs of the Sentier des Ocres, nicknamed the “Provençal Colorado.” We recommend parking in one of the many parking lots on the outskirts of the village so you can fully enjoy your visit.
Perched on a hill, the Village of a Thousand Colors gets its nickname from the red and golden ochre found in old local quarries, some of which are still in operation after centuries. These cliffs can be explored via the Sentier des Ocres: an easy and spectacular hike where the cliffs, sculpted over the years by erosion, offer a unique walking experience.
Other breathtaking views can be found from the lookout point and the village’s higher elevations, offering visitors a stunning vista of the Luberon and the Alps.
Discover the village of Gordes
Gordes is one of the most iconic hilltop villages in Provence. Its dry-stone architecture stands out, featuring numerous cobblestone streets and a 16th-century castle.
Its quintessentially Provençal charm makes for a truly pleasant and relaxing stroll. Numerous vantage points offer panoramic views of the Luberon countryside. The village of Gordes is thus the beacon of the Luberon. Its influence illuminates the region’s hidden treasures.
The Renaissance castle stands atop the village, blending the elegance of medieval and Renaissance architecture. Just a stone’s throw from Gordes, Sénanque Abbey nestles in a valley of lavender. Founded in the 12th century, it offers a striking sight. This monastery, still inhabited by monks, fills visitors with a sense of serenity through its church, cloister, and dormitory.
Just a few minutes from Gordes lies the Village des Bories. These dry-stone huts bear witness to an ingenious agricultural way of life and ancestral craftsmanship.
